If you’re trying to spice up your hair and beauty routines with some of the hottest trends of 2022, look no further: We’ve got the inside scoop. If you’re always keeping up with beauty trends and considering a new career in hair styling or cosmetology, explore the programs offered at Don Roberts School of Hair Design to get on track with the right education.

Unexpected Hair Colors

rainbow hair tied in a knot

Ready to make a change? This spring, look to the colors of the rainbow for your hair inspiration. Designers like Loewe and Dries Van Noten sent their models down the runway sporting edgy cuts in shades like pale blue, magenta, and turquoise. Not convinced? Pantone also deemed those colors to be the New York Fashion week go-tos for both hair and clothing. When you’re going for such a dramatic color change in your look, it’s always worth consulting a professional stylist to treat your hair without risking damage and to ensure you’re picking the right shade for your skin tone. The student stylists at Don Roberts School of Hair Design are ready to help you find your ideal color.

Retro Renaissance

With the recent Friends reunion and the upcoming fourth installment of The Matrix on the horizon, it’s clear that the styles of the nineties and early 2000’s are back. This nostalgic flair could be seen in hair, make-up, and fashion throughout 2021, and the retro aesthetic isn’t going anywhere in 2022. Take a nod from the vintage vibes of the past to freshen up your modern look.

Center Stage

While side parts may have been the bread-and-butter of the 2010s, the 90’s center part renaissance is in full swing. Fashion it-girls like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner can often be seen sporting a middle part, whether their flat ironed hair brushes their shoulders or is tucked away in a sleek bun. Find your center part with the help of a rattail comb or ask your hair stylist to help you with a cut that complements your perfect part.

Glow Up

The matte lip has been huge over the last few years, and it continues to remain a staple in many beauty lovers’ oeuvres. It may have some competition, however; with the growing popularity of early 2000’s fashion, the ultra-glossy lip has come out to play. Channel Paris Hilton in her Simple Life heyday with a Y2K-inspired pink lip gloss or try adding a layer of shine to your favorite red lip. No matter what your signature shade is, there’s bound to be a lip gloss that matches. An added bonus? Lip gloss tends to make lips look fuller.

Bright Eyes

Black eyeliner is classic for a reason—it’s flattering on everyone and never goes out of style. This spring, however, designers like Versace and Prabal Gurung featured bright hues that you’ll need sunglasses to properly appreciate. Stunning pigments like neon orange and lime green were used as eyeshadows and liners to create fluorescent beauty looks that are sure to break that winter ice. If that sounds a little extreme, try going for a sheer lid tint that allows you to light up the room without going overboard.

Stand-Out Accessories

barrettes and clips in long hair
While you may have left headbands and barrettes behind in middle school, their glitzy, grown-up counterparts have been spotted on the runways of Rodarte, Simone Rocha, Tom Ford, and Victor Glemaud. Ring in the new year with a sparkling tiara or spice up a simple ponytail with bubble hair ties. Chunky barrettes and hair clips are also making a comeback. Designers like Gucci and Prada have combined logomania and rhinestone embellishments to create clips that are sure to make you the belle of the ball.

Crystal Light

Rhinestones aren’t just adorning your favorite hair accessories. Crystals are also being applied to the eye and cheek areas for a show-stopping look. Not one for rhinestones? Participate in the trend by using glitter or highlighter to shine a spotlight on your best features. Glitter can also be used to give your hair a bit of sparkle—just be sure you’re using a formula that is specifically designed to be gentle on your strands.
