How Self-Care Empowers Women

The past few years have brought about a strong trend of self-care, especially for women. Whether that’s because women are taking their mental health more seriously, or they’ve just had more time to focus on themselves because of social distancing. Self-care is now a more common practice than ever before.

When people think of self-care, terms like facials, me-time, or massage often come to mind. But did you know there are more benefits from self-care besides just glowing skin? One of the most important effects of self-care is that it empowers women. Self-care can rejuvenate you, teach you new things, or keep you healthy – all things that can empower you!

Keep reading to find out the different ways you can be empowered by self-care!

Self-Care Makes You Feel Good

New haircuts, facials, manicures, and other ways you prefer to pamper yourself, are some of the most basic ways to take care of yourself. These seemingly minor things can help relax the mind and body and lift your spirits. When your body and mind can relax, they have time to heal from the toll everyday life puts on you! Feeling good can lead to happiness and confidence, resulting in self-empowerment. Don Roberts School of Hair Design provides many of these services and wants to help you take time for yourself.

Treating yourself to ice cream after a hard day, or buying a new pair of shoes with your hard-earned paycheck make you happy! Enjoying the little wins in life can brighten your day and make you feel better. While the little things can make us happy in the moment, it’s important to remember that instant gratification doesn’t lead to lasting joy. Try to find a balance between treating yourself in the moment, and building lasting habits that can empower you.

Self-Care Can Improve Overall Health

Studies show that women who exercise regularly, get sufficient sleep, and find satisfaction in their life have less depression, anxiety, and other physical illnesses like heart disease. Activities like consistent exercise, eating a balanced diet, or sleeping are ways to self-care that are directly related to your body’s health.

Similarly to your physical health, finding activities that improve your mental health is also important. Practicing mindfulness or meditation can help you battle mental diseases just as exercise can repel physical illness. Allow yourself to fully feel your emotions. Prioritize healthy sleeping habits. Realize that some things are out of your control, and that’s okay! Having a healthy body and mind gives you more energy and strength to achieve your goals, leaving you feeling empowered.

Self-Care Recharges and Clears the Mind

Life is busy. We all have something going on in our lives that we are rushing to accomplish. Whether it be studying to get a college degree, working overtime to afford your dream vacation, or moving out on your own for the first time, life can be tough. Pushing through the high stresses of life can leave your battery running low. This is when self-care comes into play. Taking time for yourself during the stressful times of your life allows you to recharge and reset your mind.

Relaxing just when you need it the most is beneficial to your health. Allowing your body and mind to rest rejuvenates you so you can keep putting in your best efforts. Having a clear mind allows you to problem solve better and attain your goals. You’ve got to recharge your batteries so your performance stays strong, right? Having consistent progress by allowing yourself to relax can empower you to work harder.

Self-Care Teaches You to Put Yourself First

It’s like they say on airplanes in case of a crash, “Put on your own oxygen mask before helping someone else.” It’s a good thing to help and do nice things for each other, but when that service comes at the cost of our own health, then it’s no longer beneficial.

By putting our own needs first, we can then serve others and achieve our goals to the best of our ability! Self-care allows us to take time for ourselves and empowers us to help others.
